Having some lightweight kitchen supplies is important when you are trying to make everything fit in your hiking bag. I have put together a list of the 3 main must-have lightweight kitchen items. These are excellent not only for backpacking but also in your emergency kit. I have an extra set in my 72 hour kit.
My Favorite Lightweight Kitchen Supplies
First is your mess kit. The Arcadia Outdoors 11-piece cookset is not only lightweight, checking in at under 14 ounces, but compact with the ability to stack into one neat piece. The durable anodized aluminum with the handles make the pots easy to use, whether you use them over an open fire or a portable stove. Also included is the two bowls, bamboo handle spoon, cleaning loofah, mesh bag, a foldable steel spork, and a firestarter. Everything you need for on the fly eating, all for under 20 bucks.
Next up is your portable stove. You can use the same one from the previous article: Etekcity Ultralight Portable Stove. Standing at just three and a half inches and only weighing .2 pounds this little stove goes hand in hand with the pots and pans. It may be small but it gets the job done. You don’t have to worry about the stainless steel and aluminum alloy breaking on you even after the 1 year warranty is up your cooker will continue to keep you happy. Not only is this one of my favorite lightweight kitchen supplies, it is one of my favorite camping supplies, in general.
The last of the lightweight kitchen supplies is a collapsible sink. These are a lot more handy than most people realize. I prefer an Interthing 15L Foldable Sink Portable Camping Collapsible Bucket with Carrying Pouch. I fill mine up with cold water from a river or stream which is usually relatively cold and clean. I add some of the extra boiling water that is left over from dinner to warm the water up and do all the dishes after each meal. Made with Oxford material and backed with a lifetime warranty it weighs just 6.8 ounces and can hold up to 15 liters.
Tips
All these lightweight kitchen items are easy to pack around and use time and time again. Also pick up some dehydrated meals for easy cooking on the trail. If you are trying to feed more than two people you might need a larger cooker. The Etekcity is more of a personal stove.
I want to hear from you
