If you have ever seen “127 Hours” you know just how important carrying a knife can be for your survival. Having said that, it is very doubtful that you will need to remove your hand to free yourself from a fallen boulder. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a good knife for other reasons.

There are plenty of practical uses for your knife while you’re camping, I never go without my Benchmade Griptilian Knife. For many people a knife is just apart of their wardrobe and it should be no different for camping, you never know when you’ll need it.

The Griptilian model is apart of the Mel Pardue design, the blade is a steel drop point style with a nylon handle and ambidextrous thumb studs. I’ve had my knife since I was a teenager, they’re very durable and can handle just about anything. I use my knife for everything from peeling fruit to starting my fire when I am camping so I always wipe it off after i use it and give it a good cleaning with regular dish soap when I get the opportunity.

Benchmade Griptilian Knife Specs

Benchmade produces knives of all shapes and sizes for various purposes but the Griptilian is more specifically for the outdoors. The blade length is 3.45″ and 0.115″ thick. Open its length is 8.07″ and closed is 4.62″ long. Only weighing 3.2 ounces it is the ideal knife to slip into your pocket and forget about until you need it.

Before the Griptilian I have had plenty of knives come and go. You name it, broken blades, cheap materials, and faulty mechanisms cheap knifes eventually break. The money you spend when you buy Benchmade is worth it for how long they lasts, I have never had any issues with mine.

Thanks to their lifetime warranty you really don’t have to worry, as long as you’re the original owner your knife will be covered to repair or replace defects in materials and workmanship.

Tips

It’s a good idea to keep your knife sharpened for when you need it. When you use it regularly,  it will become sticky it may become difficult to open and close your knife.  I soak my knife in warm soapy water and clean in the hard to get places with a Q-tip.
