Your tent is an important part of your gear. It gives you a defined place for your things to help you stay organized.  It also keeps you dry in the rain. No matter where you are camping, whether you are up on the top of a cliff or 10 feet away from your car, a good tent should keep you warm and dry throughout the night.

When it comes to camping everyone has their own idea of what it means to them. The truth is, there is a huge variety of camping to be done. A sense of accomplishment always overwhelms me after spending a day hiking up a mountain to make my camp. The views of nature are always the best reward. Some of my favorite camping memories are from last minute trips up to the lake.  Just load the car with gear and some buddies and disappear into a weekend filled with adventure and relaxation.

When the sun goes down and it’s time to put the fire out, you need somewhere to spend the rest of the night.

Personally I use the Coleman 4-Person Evanston Tent with the screened porch canopy.

Features & Durability

The Coleman Evanston tent is a quick-pitch tent and is easy to put up, only taking about 5 minutes. It has plenty of room so you can keep all of your gear with you. The screened porch is a nice feature. I do a good amount of water activities while I’m camping.  So it’s nice be have a dry place to change without tracking a mess through your tent. I picked one of these up about 5 years ago and it has not failed me yet. It is very durable and made using the Coleman Weathertec system which is excellent for keeping water out.

Tips for the Coleman Evanston Tent

Make sure that you put your tent away clean and properly for the off-season to help your tent stay nice. If you leave your tent in a pile in your garage, you may not want to sleep in it after awhile. Mold and other bacteria can grow throughout your tent and ruin it. A rag will work fine to just give it a good wipe down inside and out before putting it back in the tent bag.

The Coleman Evanston tent is a bit on the heavy side.  When I go with camping with my friends we typically split up heavier items such as tents and kitchen supplies to make it easier on everyone.  If you plan on using it for backpacking long distances, you may want to lighten it.  One thing you can do to lighten it up a bit without loosing the size or durability of the tent is replacing the tent rods. The tent comes with fiberglass rods but if you are willing to put the money down for some aluminum rods you will notice the difference.
