Different styles of camping call for different ways to cook. Luckily there are several various methods you can use to cook your meals while in the great outdoors. I’ll help you figure out all of the items that you need to pick up in order to prepare meals while camping. Whether you are backpacking to secluded locations or camped in the woods next to your car, a delicious meal is always nice at the end of a big day.
Cooking While Camping: Breakfast
For cooking breakfast I prefer to use my Coleman grill, it’s great for whipping up some eggs & hashbrowns before heading out on an adventure for the day. The cooking set I talked about in my “10 Basic Camping Kitchen Items” has a good variety of pots and pans which should be enough to get you through your trip. The grill runs off of propane so you don’t even have to worry about having a fire.
Cooking While Camping: Lunch
For lunch, since I am usually away from the campsite, I try to bring something easier to cook and my ultralight portable stove. If you have freeze dried food and water your portable stove will have your hunger eliminated in no time. Amazon has a 12 piece cookware set that includes the stove, two pots, utensils, and a convenient carry case, everything you need for an on the go meal. Fuel for the burner is a necessity but the canisters are sold separately.
Cooking While Camping: Dutch Ovens
The Dutch Oven method is a great way to bring some absolutely amazing dishes right to the campfire, as long as you have plenty of time to spare. Most recipes can take 4 or more hours so be sure to plan accordingly. There are a couple different styles, both work great, it really comes down to your own personal preference. After sitting on hot coals for all that time, your dutch oven will need to be removed from the heat. I recommend using the Lodge lid lifter to fish it out.
For larger groups, as far as your plates and utensils go it’s easiest to go with plastic. Be sure to pack out what you brought in so everyone can enjoy the true beauty nature has to offer.
I want to hear from you
